What Grade Of Plywood Is It?

Plywood is considered a mid-to-high-end product in the wood-based panel market. Its market positioning and performance characteristics determine its application value in decoration, furniture making, and other fields.

 

Currently, market prices typically range from tens to hundreds of yuan per sheet, with the specific price influenced by factors such as brand, material, craftsmanship, and dimensions. For example, ordinary brand plywood made from basic materials might cost tens to a little over a hundred yuan per sheet, while plywood made from high-quality wood, with fine craftsmanship, or special surface treatments (such as solid wood veneer) could cost several hundred yuan per sheet.

 

The grade classification of plywood is mainly based on its material, craftsmanship, and performance. In terms of material, plywood is usually made of two or more layers of solid wood core (such as pine or poplar) combined with a surface veneer through a hot-pressing process. This structure gives it both the texture of solid wood and the stability of engineered wood. High-quality plywood uses uniformly dense, insect-free, and rot-free wood as its core material, and strictly controls its moisture content (usually between 6% and 12%) to ensure the stability and durability of the board. In contrast, low-grade plywood may use inferior wood or scraps, and its moisture content is not strictly controlled, making it prone to deformation and cracking.

In terms of manufacturing process, the difference in quality between plywood lies in the control of parameters such as hot-pressing temperature, pressure, and time. High-grade plywood uses advanced hot-pressing technology to ensure a tight, void-free internal structure, high surface flatness, and good water and temperature resistance (typically able to withstand temperature changes from -20℃ to 60℃). Furthermore, surface treatment is also an important factor in differentiating quality. High-grade plywood may use solid wood veneer or high-quality melamine paper to enhance its appearance and wear resistance; while low-grade products may only have simple coatings or be covered with low-quality decorative paper, resulting in poor appearance and durability.

 

In terms of applications, plywood, due to its high-end positioning, is widely used in fields with high requirements for board performance. For example, in home decoration, plywood is often used to make furniture such as wardrobes, bookcases, and cabinets. Its stable structure and good processing performance (can be cut and drilled) make the furniture making process simpler and more efficient. At the same time, the water resistance and temperature resistance of plywood also make it suitable for humid environments such as kitchens and bathrooms, as well as indoor environments with winter heating in northern regions. In addition, plywood is also often used in interior partitions and wall decorations, adding a natural texture to the space.

 

Regarding industry standards, the production and testing of plywood must comply with relevant national standards, such as clearly defined requirements for moisture content, formaldehyde emission, and static bending strength. High-end plywood can usually easily pass these tests, and even meet more stringent environmental standards (such as E0 formaldehyde emission level), providing consumers with a healthier and safer living environment. Lower-end products, however, may fail to meet these standards due to material or manufacturing defects, posing safety hazards.
